It has a labyrinth organ yes.

They can survive out of water for a few hours.

Perky, I'd say a 75 would be great for the 2 I have or for P. delhezi. Most other species grow larger and will need a larger tank. The 2 I have (P. senegalus) will probably reach 10-13" in length. Some sites report them to grow to 19", but apparently this isn't true (thanks to Toirtis for that information).

Well they're a very HARDY fish, they are able to survive in almost putrid water because of their ability to breath air.

But then again most cool fish are illegal

A bit outside by price range. Why are these fish illegal?
Is it like the weather loach and people throw them into the Murray River and they prey upon the Murray Cods and then they will wipe out the Australian Murray Cods Species.

Here is a picture of my still fairly new Albino senegal bichir. He was swimming around the tank, and I got this pic as he was passing the intake tube of an AC500.

"What are you looking at?"

Here are my new Cryptoheros (formerly Archocentrus) nanoluteus. They are closely related to convicts.

another of the nano

Here is one of my juvie Cryptoheros sp. 'Honduran Red Fin'. Pictures just don't do these fish justice. I know this pic looks like a normal convict, but their scales have a blue hue that looks very similar to a blue dempsey. The red fins are just beginning to develop.

I wanted to include one more pic. This is again of the nanoluteus, and I know the pic is blurry, but I took this one without flash and in this pic you can see the blue eyes of these fish.

I notice this fish has lungs. Does that mean it can breath out of water?

TigerAngel: Be prepared to spend, I've already researched them. As with every other fish in Australia they're illegal...they cost anything between 400 - 600 AUD for a 4 - 6" specimen.

How hard are they to keep? What can you put with them? How much are they $? What size tank? I'm interested in getting one, but like to know a bit more about it before getting one. The biting the fingers don't turn me on much though. Sounds painful.

I've seen that pic before and read threads from the owner. For some reason, his albino hasn't grown much in lentgh, but has grown a lot in girth. Of course, you can see that in the picture. Bichir's are typically more eel-like than than picture.

They are not really mean, but they will eat anything that fits in their mouths. I love them, and would really like to get a delhezi and ornatipinnis to add to my collection. they are great fish

They're predators...they prey on things

Reports from people who have had the bichir clinging on to their fingers and having to use pliers to pry them off

By the way their teeth are angled backwards so very good at gripping onto things

I did not know what a Albino senegal bichir was, so I look up this site. Cool photos.
One very unusual fish. Like a mix of python/croc/turtle all in one. Looks mean, is it?

I want that polypterus

Nope, you can't have him. I got a great deal on this guy...I paid $40 for him. I've since seen other lfs sell the same size albino polypterus for $80.

Oh, and batteries probably need charged again. I still have about 15 more pics to go through. I'll do that tomorrow...it's getting late.
