Hmmmmm I'm looking at that third pic of that farllowa. I've been trying not to speak negative lately......... so I best not comment on it's looks.

But that IS a really good pic of one!

They may not be pretty but their the best algae eaters I have ever owned.
Does anyone know what gender this one is by looking at the pictures?

Not the prettiest! Now I say...

They are amazingly cute and intresting creatures, not to mention how usefull they are. Humpf! Farlowella lovers of the world unite and take over!

Seriously now, seems that you may have a male farlo in your tank, going on the tiny bristles that line his snout. Usually more noticeable during breeding season and in mature specimens.

Also from the ventral shots you posted it would seem that it is a F. marielenae, based on the 3 rows of scutes on its belly and that these species is fairly common in the trade.

Nice pics bud! You have a nice cleaning crew going there. You will never see some of the pesky algae growing in your tank anymore, in fact you may be needing to start growing algae for them!

Enjoy them, they are great and noble fish.

James
