sly Big Fish Posts: 377 Kudos: 251 Votes: 0 Registered: 22-Jun-2004 | Thanks for the tips Molly. I've counted at least 8 fry. Most of them hang out near one particular shell where the mother is. Some of the fry sit out in the open sand (near the mother) and scurry back when they get spooked. Also, I noticed one fry has take a shell as its own! ] |

Back off, and in a minute or two it will waterlog and start sinking. Continue to feed the adults normally - pellets IME are paticularly good as the parents often spray "crumbs" everywhere while they're eating them. IME the parents don't directly feed them, but, then, they don't need to - the fry are very, very good at finding their own food. Of course, live food is always good - newly hatched brine shrimp is a particularly good choice. I've heard great things about (frozen) Cyclop-Eeze, too. Hmm, maybe I should post some new fry shots since the post was dragged out again! -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

sly Big Fish Posts: 377 Kudos: 251 Votes: 0 Registered: 22-Jun-2004 | I came home this weekend and saw something very tiny move and found out that my Occies have babies! My first question is what to feed them? All I can think of is crushed flakes but they seem to scatter in the water once I put my hands in. Does the mother feed the babies (by collecting food an spitting it in the shells?) |

littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 | Not quite - but I did set the "continuous shooting" feature on my camera. The fry just decided they didn't care about me any more and started swimming about. Mostly I was reading Plato, taking notes, and looking up every few minutes to get a few shots. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 | Escargot shells, and I just called a couple of gourmet shops out of the yellow pages. They were pretty cheap, too, and of all the types of shells I've tried, the shellies have preferred these about 20:1. New shots (because I ought to be reading Plato) The Angel vs. Devil shot: The two shots that show the orange/yellow on the dorsal is already there! And people say similis lack color ... And the best shot so far: -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 | Okay, I got a new picture (which has definitely inspired me to keep trying!): Okay, just caught a couple more: Mom guarding fry, who's aping parents and peeking out of shell (it's a bit of a looser fit on him ) Last edited by LittleMousling at 27-Oct-2004 15:28 -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 | They're staying with the parents, at least for now - it's a 7 gallon minibow. And I do plan to keep them, as I'm setting up (well, knock on wood) a 40-long colony tank in the early spring for these guys. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |
