Beautiful fish, Bernard. I was admiring them on one of the on-line fish seller sites and thinking I may try to get some in the future for one of the tanks I'm currently setting up.

The female coloring is much more subtle then the males. Normally she will be quite a bland olive greenish, but colors up after feedings and when the male comes a courtin'

These fish are still relatively young, I've had them just over a year but they still have a bit to go, Boesmanii's are quite slowing growing and take a few years to reach full size.

They are a definate pair and almost inseparable. They spawn frequently, always early morning. Unfortunately nothing ever comes of this as the other fish have long since figured out what's going on and follow them around to scoff the eggs. I've even seen an SAE gently nudge the male to wards the female on occasion - "I fancy eggs over easy noe get to work boy !". I've but a few thick low clumps of Wisteria in a back corner to try to give them some privacy and they seem to appreciate it.

The male is very protective of the female and will chase away any other Rainbow that try's to woo her.

Tim,
I would definately recommend them. They are a great schooling fish, much more fascinating and fun then the average tetra. Very playful and active they seem to really enjoy playing about and displaying to one another , boisterous but very peaceful. They are lookers too, they can look a bit dull in store tanks but really color up well in good conditions especially when there's a lot of plants around
