Meet my brand new additions; seven little zebras plecs.
They are only 2.5cm or just under an inch so I am keeping them in a brood net for a while until they get bigger.
They are a little pale in the pics due to the hour drive home and the move to my tank.

Awesome !

Any idea how valuable those fish are down here ?
They're like gold bars with fins LOL.

Cute little fishes though, how are they settling in ?

7!? did you sell the car or something?

They look beautiful, congratulations! I can't wait to see them in their tank

I sold a rental house for a profit.

Not cheap at $700 each but to date, they are all still kicking. They were not advertised and I was just lucky enough to ask the right person, bang on the right time.
They were nearly going to be flown to Sydney and Melbourne but I got them now and they are staying in Queensland.

I am really, really, going to have to keep my tank clean now.

I tried to get a photo this morning but I forgot to turn off the filter and the surface of the water was rippley.
One certainly looks like he's getting fat. They love my microworms which is good and I put a vilforma tab in for good measure.
Breeding would be nice but I think it will be at least 3 to 5 years before they are old enough for that.
Like any surrogate mum, I will just be happy if they are all healthy and live a full life.

The zebs now have the tank to themselves. I evicted the cories and after see the sparkling gouramis stealing the cory food tabs and swimming off with them in their mouths, they got relocated to another tank as well.
Here is a better photo I got of them while they were still in the net.

I have rescaped the tank and released the zebras and now I see them no more. They have disappeared to hide but every so often, late at night I see a flash of tail from behind something so I know they are still alive. I need some more caves and slate yet, but I wanted to keep it uncluttered for a start so they could find their food easily.
Here is a pic just before I released them into the tank.

Wow Bren, now you've done it, now you've REALLY made me jealous. Fantastic. I'm expecting you to breed them once they get bigger, that's my personal opinion with these fish; if you can't afford a batch of them and get a breeding project going, you have no right to these amazing fish. Good luck!

Then again, you'd probably have to breed them to help get yourself out of the financial hole you've dug yourself into... That's a huge amount of cash for fish.

I think they have to be 3 to 5 years old to breed and they can keep it up until about 15yrs old.
I don't know, I'm still reading the sex and breeding book to my whiptails but they aren't listening.

Once they get bigger, the zebras may get to go in the 4ft tank with the whiptails as apparently they are ok to be kept together. Zebras are shy and whiptails are very gentle quite slow fish.

they sure have gotten lovely as they colored up! cant wait until they big and beautiful! you will definatly be breeding these with the breeding luck you have with every other species! and the whiptails will respond in a matter of time... maybe their not mature enough... LATE BLOOMERS??? thats quite a cute tank you got them in and they are going to flourish under your care!
