He's come out of his shell a good bit now so managed to finally get some photos. bensaf attached this image: Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |

Maybe I'm just lucky, but being a gourami fan I have quite a vollection of them and they all get on great. He's not as timid now, out and about constantly, always looking for something. Still a bit wary of me but I'm sure he'll get over it. He's about 21/2-3" now. The photos really don't do justice to him. The color on his fins especially is amazing. BTW, you may be able to help me. I was in my LFS today just browsing. My eye caught a tank full of opaline juvies, tiny things about half an inch only. I then spotted something else, a lone male Croaking Gourami Had to have him so snatched him up, then the guy asked me if I wanted more, he catches them locally (I live in Java). Don't know much about them. Have you ever kept them? Any advice or info would be appreciated. Especially if they do well in groups might grab some more. From what I've read, croakers like a higher temp, 27-29°C and even higher to trigger breeding. They also do best in acidic, soft water. All the small gouramis I've kept seem to be less shy when kept in pairs or larger groups, so maybe these are the same. edit: I just did some reading in a labyrinth fish book I have...apparently croaking gouramis are typically found in groups in nature so now you have a reason to get some more Looking forward to some pictures as well Last edited by Theresa_M at 28-Sep-2004 10:52 ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

Actually there's a few rivers and ponds near my place I could probably catch them myself ! I've read these can be timid, but this guy is already very outgoing not in the least bit shy Got a very subtle beauty (btw it's also a 3 stripe) glowing eyes and a beautiful green irridescent sheen on his fins. Not worried about the water, he was probably living within a few miles of my apartment ! My tap water probably comes from the same place, which would explain why it's not drinkable.
