I've been reading your experience too. Not bad pics either. I was playing with someones camera last night trying to take pics of my fish, just for fun, trying to see how hard it was. By the time I clicked, the fish was no longer in the picture! But at least yours is slower moving. I wish you good luck with that fish & your new camera. Do we get a new pic of your big tank now with that new camera? |

Perfect build, nice colour, and a temperament that is well.. normal for a flowerhorn. Hybrid yes, but by no means freaky, id be proud to own such a fish. Canon photography tip. Put in in av mode , set the white balance on something black , white or grey, ISO 200 , and turn the shutter speed down to minimum for a fast take, and use normal macro, or just have it set on regular and stand a foot or two back. If youre not using flash you can always edit the picture by cropping it. As long as the clarity is there you can afford to lose the edges and the clarity will still pass muster. or, go to 50 ISO , shutter speed right down, slide it over to the left for a fast exposure, flash on half power, and click. Lens right up against the glass, at a 20 degree down angle, autofocus on a canon should be fine. At the moment the pics are showing the kind of compensatory fuzz you get before you have learned to use the available light to your advantage. Leaning to use fast shutter speeds and low light settings with judicious use of the flash can give you much better, less grainy results. Hence I have a camera with less res than yours and I can do this: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_3245-1.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_3304-1.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_1637.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_1764.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_1834.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/grasshoppers006.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_1283.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_2329.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_2205.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_2207.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_6030.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_5953.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_5834.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_5853.jpg Use the fish's eye as the focus point, the human eye goes to the eye of the fish, and you can often get away with a fin or two out of focus as long as the eye is focus. With your camera you should be able to set the focus point off-centre if need be. Learning to preserve the original colour palette without the camera having to compensate is also extremely important. Even when it comes to photo editing in an application like photoshop, it helps the resolution and clarity enormously if you captured as much if the original light colour as possible. It avoids a lot of graininess. To that effect, always use the whitebalance and unless rushed never use the auto settings for light. Rebalance often. Remember also that its better to shoot slightly dark , but perfectly ficused pictures and lighten them up in a photo editor than it is to shoot too bright, thuslty losing detail that you just cant put back, or to have the iso too high resulting in grain that obscures detail and cant be sharpened . Always better to have a dull picture with all the image information in it, than shoot bright and have contrast issues. Always work from dark to light, and not vice versa. you can never add what isnt originally there. If you use flash , make sure you whitebalance with the flash on. Hope that helps you get to grips with using your new camera! Learn to use clarity and light, and res becomes irrelevant. With a res of 4 meg or more, you should be able to take perfectly good clear pictures, as long as the lens is big enough to recieve enough light. The focus accuracy of a canon is its saving grace, so the occassions youll need to use anything but autofocus are rare, but when it comes to light interpretation you may find with a little practise , your eye and anticipation are better than the cameras. Basically use the focus on auto , and the light as manually as possible. |
