So for those keeping track of my topics you might now I've been interested in Debauwi Cats. Well here they are, all 8 of them!

The first pic I forgot to turn off the flash, but it turns out the pic kind of turned out okay with the fish being pretty clear, despite the large burst of light up top.

Here they are without flash. Maybe I should get some sort of flash bulb that I can hold above the tank, but then again I'm not a real photographer.

They're definitely a refreshing change from the rest of my catfishes. I love how these fish swim around so I can actually see them!

They look really good. It must be nice to see them swimming about instead of hiding like the others. Perhaps they will draw the others out more?

Not many of us are "real" photographers. The best I can hope for is one really nice pic in every 50 or so. Thank goodness for digital where you can just delete all the ones which don't quite turn out.

Sometimes toggling the flash can work, sometimes it doesn't. I think that is what photography is all about, trying different settings and lights.

I feel like I should get more floating plants for my debauwi's to feel even more comfortable; they seem to be a little nervous and swim away pretty quickly whenever I come near. Of course, they are new, so that may just be it, but I have read floating plants can make them even more comfortable. I don't think they'll be drawing out any fish considering they're usually over a foot above the rest of the fishes who chill out on the bottom, but it would be nice if they did.

Tonight at feeding time the debauwi's whizzed around my E. radiosus. He doesn't seem to mind all of the new guys coming around eating his flakes, hehe. I was kind of hoping he would school with them; based on his activity I almost that he would be a nocturnal South American equivalent to the debauwi cats and would prefer to be in groups. But now that I see debauwi's they far outpace him in speed. Maybe he'll at least learn that the debauwi's can help him find flakes; they tend to actually hang closer to the surface while he normally swims about mid-level, thus a signal for him to come up for flakes would be a little handy.

I think my plec and the Synodontis are new best friends; I set up a sizeable rock cave and the two of them chill out in it together. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get a picture, and if I took a picture, you almost definitely wouldn't see the Synodontis, who pretty much hides behind the plec while in the cave.

I can't be patient enough to take 50 pics, maybe ten tops, lol. Now that I think of it, most of my pics aren't really well lit, which is probably what the problem is. In a tank as large as my 125 gallon, the angle of lights from the top means that the upper portion in the front and back aren't well lit. If I were able to take pics of the fish more directly under the aquarium lights they'd probably come out better.

One of the little debauwi's is really lucky; he jumped out of the tank while I was there, and I picked him up and threw him back in. Anyone else probably wouldn't notice such a tiny fish on the ground, and honestly I don't even know how I did. In the end, I asked if I could get the the price off for the one fish that I saved, and I did! I mean, it was $3.99, but I like saving money.

As an interesting tidbit, the rest of the debauwi catfish reacted to the one guy being returned to the tank when this happened. That's a definite sign of the evolution of ostariophysan panic signal chemicals, and they definitely showed the greatest reaction of any fish to it that I have ever seen. It was pretty interesting.

The mudskipper's got a nice 10 gallon for herself; it might not sound like much, but with her floating piece of land to crawl on it adds to the total space she actually has to live in/on.

I like the Royal a lot too, it's just that even in a 125 gallon tank there's poo everywhere!

Thanks!

I so wish i could find a mudskipper here!
Do you have mud in the tank?
Yeah the Royals are real poo machines.
I got one Royal,1 Rusty and 5 P.Maccus...you have no idea how much poo they make.I have 3 filters running at the moment..it's a must.

Yeah, mudskippers are not exactly common; I haven't seen one sold since. I don't have mud, just sand. Mud isn't absolutely necessary; they do make burrows in the wild, but I imagine that they can be comfortable enough with other hiding places.

I've only got two filters on my 125, an Emperor and an Aquaclear. How much gph combined does your filtration add up to on how large of a tank? It probably wouldn't be out of the question for me to require a third filter as well...

Well I finally broke down and joined the bandwagon... Panda Corys!

I wish they had more in, otherwise I would've gotten a bigger group. I'll get some more ASAP, but I wanted some now, lol.

The true test of character is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we dont know what to do.

Yeah, they're tiny! But after a few hours of worrying, it appears that they are indeed NOT small enough to be eaten. I was worried about the Syno but it left them alone as well. It's funny, because sometimes the Debauwi's will investigate one of the Corys as it swims up the tank wall. The Black Lancer also didn't appreciate a Panda Cory barging into its hidey hole one time. I'm sure they'll be fine.

And can anyone say... impulse buy? Parailia pellucida. Last one left in the store, but I saw it and had to have it. First time I've ever seen one of these before. I figure since I have some schilbeids already this guy can't be too different... Right now he's proving me way wrong by hiding out instead of being out in the open like the Debauwi Cats. It seems counterintuitive to be clear if a fish is nocturnal though, so I'm hoping it starts coming out more.

My tank draws ever closer to the intended stock. I found Sterbai Cories for much cheaper than I thought; some people were saying these fish would be $10-14 a piece, but my LFS had them for $6.99 each. I'm quite happy.

They wouldn't sit still, though, lol. I got six of them, a good school.
