There is a swamp in the woods near my house, so I went and looked for a good piece of wood that I could use for my tank. I ended up finding a log half submerged in mud. So I dug it up, washed it, soaked it for a few days, washed it a few more times with a pressure hose, and now I have it in my tank. I only let it soak for that long because after 3 days the water was still the same clear water that it was before. I guess that the wood was in that mud for a while. It ended up being the perfect addition to my 55 gallon tank.

the piece is about 3-3.5 feet long and 10-12 inches wide.

I have a before and after picture of my tank... Please tell me what you think. critque whether it is better or not...the fish certainly seem to love it.

Hey it looks good Bud. I like where you placed it too. So often people place things like that directly in the middle of the tank; making it look unnatural. If the fish like it then it is deffinately a keeper. That is the most important thing after all. Oh, as an after thought, did you say it is cedar because I was thinking cedar has oils in it that give that cedar smell. I wonder if these oils would be harmful? That may be something to look into.

I don't think that it is harmful because at the LFS they sell cedar wood for in your tank.

Now I know why I had a bad feeling about cedar. It is because they dont recomend it for bedding for lizards as the oils can irritate the skin. Sorry, my brain was flashing warning and I thought I would mention it. Your tank looks good though!

I like it. I think it gives your tank a more natural look. Nice find.
