After some replanting, I thought I'd post some updated photos of a few of my tanks.

Here's the 20 gal - just clipped the Ludwidgia and Ambulia way down, so they need a little more time to grow back in, hence the dip in the middle back. Have been thinking about replacing the Pygmy Chain Swords in the front with some shorter, neater Dwarf Sag, or maybe some Hairgrass. Thoughts?

The 125 - it's a bit of a mess right now because while I was in France my sister's care spurred a massive BGA outbreak, and I'm waiting until the end of treatment to vacuum up the dead bits. Those river rocks were covered with nice java moss but it was absolutely massacred by the BGA, so I removed it all. Thoughts on the foreground? I'm thinking of switching the Dwarf Sag into the 20, as previously mentioned, and that Chain Sword in here, but it's a pretty big tank to have just one foreground plant. Also, wish that lily would grow a bit taller and be a nicer middleground plant.
This isn't quite the whole length of the tank, as the 20 blocks part and the angle removes part.

The 10 - currently with a Brevis pair that's going to a friend. This tank could really use some aquascaping advice - trouble is, where I'd normally be in there rearranging all the time to get the right look, the plants hate being moved in that sand, so I've been letting them be. Maybe some pots full of Fluorite? (hmm, she begins to think - maybe I should have posted in Aquascaping ...)

The 44 - now a bit of a mixed (but all Tanganyikan) bag as I had to do some consolidation, but they seem to be doing well. Love how the shells-over-rocks in the bag seem to serve the rockdweller quite well. Don't really need feedback on this one (um, I hope ...)

Cool looking tanks! What kind of fishes do you have in the 20 gallon?

How do you have the Ludwigia planted? In a bunch or in a group of 2-3s?

The 20 has Pseudepiplatys annulatus, like the guy in my avatar. Six, some fry, plus (brand new) nine Amano shrimp, who (fingers crossed) won't eat the killie eggs.

The Ludwigia: there are two types in the tank. The normal L. repens you can't see in the picture (very happy with it though, I'm getting GREAT red out of it, usually it's a fairly green plant) as I've trimmed it back a good bit and made it a backgroundish diagonal-line plant rather than a midground group plant, so it's hidden. The bright deep red plant just left of the Wisteria is Ludwigia peruensis, which I'm greatly enjoying - it's a looovely color. That I plant singly, as it's a tad sensitive and fragile.

So do you plant the Ludwigias singlurly (both the Repens and Peru)? Because I bought 2 (named "Broad Leaf Ludwigia" and thy appear more dark greenish than red) from my LFS and they are bunched up. Should I separate them like you do?

You may be better off separating them a bit - they do like some space. Although I've never found them e to rot, they'll fail to develop side shoots if starved for light near the bottom, and if you prune the tops and then shade the bottoms, they won't grow new side shoots but will loose all their leaves and become stems with roots, barely clinging to life. Not so fun. If you're worried, split 'em up. You can always group them up again once you've got plenty of extra.

THanks for the help but since you are the Ultimate Fish Guru and I'm a newbie, whats the difference between a stem, rhizome, and root? The Ludwigia doesn't have roots so they're stemmed correct?

I guess I'll have to split them up into groups of 2s. My planting skills isn't so good. ]

Most plants have roots. Java moss and bladderwort and hornwort don't, but mostly everything else you'll be keeping does. Your stem plants come without roots - like the Ludwigia - but they'll grow them. You plant the bottom inch or so and when you go to move them or replant them, they'll have white roots gripping the gravel. A rhizome is the big horizontal bit between the leaves and roots of plants like Anubias or Java Fern - plant the roots, never the rhizome. That cover everything?

Yup, its much clearer now. It was confusing that some plants didn't show any "roots" but it makes sense that they grow after awhile.

Thats a cool looking fish in your profile. It sort of looks like a rocket with blue flames coming out of it! Do you have any close of its it?

Funny you should describe it that way - one of the common names is the Rocket Killifish (Clown Killifish is another). Let's see what I've got in the ol' photo chest ... okay, here's a fairly pathetic attempt at one of those montage-y things:

The males hit a little over an inch not including the tails. The females, who aren't quite as flashy, stay a bit smaller.
