adding tank tanins | |

Tetra Fan Mega Fish Posts: 1203 Kudos: 1081 Votes: 63 Registered: 11-Apr-2004 | It stains it a tea color...it depends how much tannins are released though...if a lot it will end up like my tank did and it will be nearly impossible to see the fish (29 gallon experiment...fish loved it, but I couldn't see them...when I finally tore down the tank to move, all fish were fine). If you have a little, it will be a light tea color. |

Cup_of_Lifenoodles Fish Guru Posts: 2755 Kudos: 1957 Votes: 30 Registered: 09-Sep-2004 | The commercial sold stuff works with varying efficacy (in some cases, the tannic acid is filtered out within a day), both in my experience and those of others. The only sure way of obtaining a working "dosage-administered" source of tannic acid is to make your own via boiling various organic materials; a smelly and drudging process. |
