monkeyboy Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 375 Votes: 223 Registered: 10-Apr-2005 | Heres my Jack Dempsey and Flower horn at what I think is about 6 months old. I'm working on moving the JD to another tank. He (JD) is about 5 inches long and she (FH), is just under 4 inches. The colors on these two are crazy. There is also a pictus cat in the tank, hes over 3 inches but is always hiding until its feeding time http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b48/monkeyboy000/fish/jd1.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b48/monkeyboy000/fish/fh2.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b48/monkeyboy000/fish/fh1.jpg And yes I know the pic of the flower horn isnt the greatest, but shes just way to quick sometimes Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |

monkeyboy Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 375 Votes: 223 Registered: 10-Apr-2005 | it would be a little better, but i gotta clean my glass on my tanks but yea, a guy i talked with once, said that the orange eyes and bright underbody color are the signs of a good high quality flower horn. i'm just soooo glad its a female. i dont really care for the humps on the males heads Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |

HOKESE Mega Fish Posts: 1105 Kudos: 478 Votes: 271 Registered: 22-Feb-2003 | u are sooooo lucky to have your fh mixed with a jd,my fella is just a plane pysco,he hates anything and everthing, and want to fight the world to the death.also your flowerhorn is the same breed as mine,a pearl dragon, these are among the nicer flowerhorns, but each ones temper is different. ps,when its gets older, the eyes will eventully turn to a vivid red,and dont be so sure you have a female, your fh looks like mine did a few years ago,i also thought i got a feamle, and later as he grew so did his hump.yours still could be a male, unless youve seen it lay eggs or sexed it correctlybut looking at the last pic,i wouls say a small male, just hasnet got his hump yet,i could be wrong. |

HOKESE Mega Fish Posts: 1105 Kudos: 478 Votes: 271 Registered: 22-Feb-2003 | yeah 5 months a?i would just keep watching then u will know,if it is a male or femalelooking at the pics,id say that the hump isnt far away,if it is a male.see im a bit like you in regards to the hump, thats why i went for a pearl dragon, the males do get a hump, but its no where near as ounced as some of the other fh breeds you can get |

HOKESE Mega Fish Posts: 1105 Kudos: 478 Votes: 271 Registered: 22-Feb-2003 | honsetly id say you fh is pretty well behaved,i say this because if he/she wanted to get rid of your jd,it would have done it by now.but ive also red in a fh keeping book ive got, that they are well known for living with other fish for ages then, like over nite, they have killed half there tankmates, but this is typical fh behavour,it can be explosive. |

monkeyboy Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 375 Votes: 223 Registered: 10-Apr-2005 | yea i know, i've been lucky, one guy i know who had a few if them together. i think he had 2 males and 2 females in a large tank and one day all of a sudden, the 1 female killed 2 of the other 3 fish in no time. he was lucky enough to save his other. I've seen what shes does when i give them glass shrimp to eat, cant imagin what she'd do to another fish thats why i'm not going to risk it for the jd and get him moved soon Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |

HOKESE Mega Fish Posts: 1105 Kudos: 478 Votes: 271 Registered: 22-Feb-2003 | yeah better to be safe than sorry,i remember way way back when i got mine,i got my guy at my lfs,to order in 3 pearl dragon fhs,so i could pick the best looking 1 out of the 3,well he rang me in the afternoon, and said they had arrived,so i hooked it up for the very next daybut when i got to the store, the biggest of the 3 had killed the other 2,so my choice was made for me rite from the word goi new then that i had gotten a monsterand he was only like 3 inches long back then.yeah so they can be VERY NASTY,when they want to bethats why i dont even try to bother mixing mine anymore, hes made it very clear he wants to be boss, and have his own condo |

monkeyboy Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 375 Votes: 223 Registered: 10-Apr-2005 | nice... thats what i was hopeing to get, but i think mine is a calm one..... for now. i'm hoping the pictus cat in with the FH makes it, but i got places for it to go. and my next selection will be some kind of bottom feeder for the 40g. thinking maybe a Red Tailed Black Shark as its tank mate. monkeyboy Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 375 Votes: 223 Registered: 10-Apr-2005 | thanks, it look suprisingly good, even tho i need to do some cleaning. i've been watching them both. the jack has slowed in growth, and the Fh is very soon about to pass him in size. i got everything i need, that i should be getting the tank for the jack going very shortly. all i need is the light strip Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |
