i went to my local petco and they cleared their plant tanks and redid it, so i desided to get a piece of driftwood with a "lace java fern" for only 3.99, still can't figure out why their potted plants are 6.99(was 3.50 a few weeks ago) so i figured pay less and get some driftwood as a bonus.

anyway, is there anything speical that is needed? i have it in a ten gallon with a betta tessyae and he likes hiding in the roots. and the ottos like riding the leaves.

also is there anything speical about the "lace java fern" compared to the reg java fern, just looks more divided at the end.

As the specimen grows larger the divided ends will continually make it look more and more bushy. I had a pretty good sized lace java fern in my 38. Hopefully whoever has it now is taking good care of it. I think it's a very beautiful plant that doesn't need any more care than the normal java fern.

Treat it as if it was a normal Java fern. Just make sure you dont get any hair algae on the lace parts. That would look ugly. Your Petco must have their prices mixed up. The plants on wood are supposed to be $6.99 and the potted plants are $3.99. Nice steal for you though. I got one of their lace javas a year and a half ago when they first offered them(this is when they were selling them for $10). Still Have it too. I have made several cuuttings off of it since then with a few daughter plantlets here and there. It will look much nicer once yours grows some new leaves in. Good Luck!!

If it is the same as serated Java Fern I grow it in both tanks (see profile) in the 5ft tank it is tied to a large rock at one end of the tank just at the end of the 4ft light. In the Betta tank it is tied to drift wood. Both of the plantings are the tops only not the creaping rizomes both are extremly happy and multiplying into thick clumps.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Chris,

Just to clear this up, I assume you are talking about Microsorum 'Windelov' (EDIT: spelling is off as the character is not showing right at FP), a plant first introduced by Tropica. Here is a link with more information about this plant.

Have fun,
