120G restarting tank | |
brodieman Small Fry Posts: 10 Kudos: 4 Votes: 0 Registered: 17-Oct-2007 | Ok i am currently restocking a 120g tank, it used to house a silver arrowana, but i had to return him to the fish store due to having to move on short notice and a lack of a place to resetup my tank for about 2 weeks. Anyways i am totally going in a differnt direction, i currently have a stocking forum on the getting started page, but this question is regarding plants, i used to have a 30g planted tank but had good lighting so i could put just about any plants in there. With the 120 gal i dont have the wattage, i have about 100watts. what are my options for low-light plants? |

I have heard of Amazon Swords doing good in low-light tanks, but I haven't tried that myself. Here is a good sight for plants. http://www.aquahobby.com/e_aquarium_plants.php They have a huge list of plants, the requirements to grow them, and peoples comments about their experience with those plants. I'm using that to plant my 55 gallon and hopefully my 15 gallon. I have found it to be extremely helpful. Hope it helps. |

That does narrow the playing field but you can still have a truly beautiful planted tank! Here is a more appropriate site that offers packages of plants designed to meet specific requirements. http://www.azgardens.com/habitats_easy.php While I have purchased from AZGardens for several years w/o a single complaint, you can also simply write down the names of these plants, and look for bargains on them elsewhere, such as your LFS. Later, if you decide to broaden the field, you can easily go higher by either changing the hood to a larger one, or if the lights are compact fluorescents, simply shifting to higher wattage bulbs. My hood will handle two CF's and I can put either 55, 65, or 95 watt bulbs in the same hood. Frank -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |
