[font color="#000080"]Help! My amazon sword plant is going yellow. The yellow started to appear in the centre of the leaves rather on the tips. I am treating my water with PlantGro every week (1/2 capfull per 10litres). There is no light for my tank, but it does receive plenty of indirect sunlight everyday. All my other plants (wisteria, ambulia, java fern, anubias) are doing great. What's wrong with my sword? Please help!!!

Hi,
Amazon Swords are, compaired to the other plants,
considered to be "heavy root feeders." That is
they draw, for all practical purposes, their
nutrients from the gravel around their roots.
This, over time, can cause an area of depletion
around the roots, and the plant slowly starve.

That is what it sounds like.

To "fix" the situation, get some plant tabs,
plant balls, or plant sticks, from your LFS
and push them into the gravel near the root
system of the individual sword plants.

Go easy, too much and you can tip the scales in
favor of algae. If you have really large swords
(over 6-8 inches) then use the entire ball, or stick,
if they are smaller swords, use a tablet, or parts
of the ball/stick.

The other plants take part of their nutrients
directly from the water, and so they consume
less of their nutrients from the gravel. This
allows the bacteria that provides the nutrients
to "keep up" with the demand. The Swords, out
strip the supply.
