I know its been a while, but i am back.
About 2 weeks ago, i was at my favorite fish store and a sale sign caught my eye. It was for a 30 inch Coralife compact fluorescent fixture for $70. It came with a 65 watt 6700K bulb in it. Perfect for my 29 gallon planted aquarium. My plants really seem to like it. The Rotala indica is fuller and more pink than usuall. My Hygrophila corymbosa is just starting to take off because of it and my melon sword is growing faster and reder. Fortunatly, the algae is not taking over or becoming unsightly. Now i have a few questions.
1- How often should you replace compact fluorescents?
2- What is the optimum photperiod for the plants under this lighting with the sugar and yeast CO2? It is currently on for 9 hours a day. I reduced it from 10 hours as it seemed like the stem plants were closing up before the 10 hours were up.
3- Any interesting colorful plants i should try in my new lighting?

clownloachfan,

Nice light, I have it on my 29G. I have the light on for 11 hours per day. Go and look at the second half of my 29G log here in this forum to read about my experience with this light and what plants I grow.

One thing upfront - you are just medium light, not more.

Have fun,

Hi,
Most recommend that you change the bulbs every 12 months.
Generally, the lights on period should be between 10 and
12 hours simulating the tropical sun along the equator.

I grew over 30 species of plants in 1.5wpg of light (in the same size tank) so with only medium light you should be quite happy

Nice deal on the light !
