My Anubias leaf edges are getting a bit brown. What do you think it is?. Too much or lack of light?.

Jason,

I would be inclined to say that it is too much light if the other tank parameters are in line. Tuck it beneath some overhanging plants to diminish the light or beneath some floating vegetation.

Jason,

It would also be interesting to know how much light you have there (in wpg, if possible), what kind of light it is (PC or what), and how long your lighting period is.

I know that you have a keen eye, but could it be that this is not the leaf turning brown but the beginning of some brush/beard algae? I have seen edges of Anubias leaves turn the color and only a real close inspection revealed that it was not the leaf but algae.

I have 55W of light for a 5 foot tank, for 10 hours a day. The height of the tank is 2 feet.

I will check if it's Algae in the next days, as i will clean & trim the plants.

Jason,

It sure doesn't sound like too much light then.

Check if it is algae, if not maybe you have some form of nutrient defficiency.

Do you think that i need to add the hours of light or add another 55W of light tubes?.

I will also check the Plants during the weekend.

Jason,

You say it is a 5 foot long tank and 24” high, is that around 90G? 55W would the be a little over half a watt per gallon and as such really low light. I don’t know how low one can go with Anubias though. What other plants are in the tank, and how are they doing?

Usually the duration(10h and such) is only secondary to intensity (wattage, or more precise lumens), so while expanding the light period might have some effect adding more lights will have a bigger effect.

But let’s first find out if it is really browning of the leaf itself in the first place .

Hope this helps,

Ingo

Well today i cleaned the tank & the brown leaf edging is Algae. I tried to remove it & some went off easily. I only have Anubias attached to Driftwood in the tank.

I have Anubias on driftwood and I got the same thing however the whole leaf's was covered in this brown stuff.

With mine on a certain time in the afternoon a window adjacent to the tank the sun would shine onto the Anubias for a few hours.

I planted some taller plants around the drift wood and it seems to have fixed itself.

So I would check if you have any direct sunlight on the plant and move or plant accordingly
