The Aponogeton in this pic I grew from a bulb (my first attempt, very proud ) I'm not sure what to do with it now though.

It's growing quite well in a 10g; will it continue to thrive in that size tank if I leave it?

My other option is to move it to my 30g. Do these plants handle moves well? I've also had plant-eating fish problems in the past...would it be safe with neons, cories, an RTBS, and a BN? I just want to make sure before I do anything

I had originally grew mine from walmart bulbs,in a 10 gal it got to the size of yours, and i moved it to the 55- and it died back, now 6 mo later its just coming back.( after it died back i couldnt find it) I personally feel its my lighting, and that it didnt like moved. the 55 is low- mod lighting, the 10 gal is high light. Im not very experienced with plants, hopefully someone will have a better answer. Just wanted to share my experience.

should be fine, I have moved my aponos many many times with no problems really except for maybe a bit of melting of the older leaves. even if it does completely die off, it will come back. I really think aponos are one of those groups of plants that can take a ton of abuse in most cases without being too picky. Even if you did choose to leave it in the 10 it would be ok, it would just take up the whole tank. EDIT: I don't see any problems in having it with the fish you listed, like I said above aponos are very hardy and mine at least have never even been nibbled by any of those.

Most aponogetons are seasonal in the sense that they die back to the bulb and regrow. In all likelihood, the plant will die back after the move then regenerate in 3 to 6 months.

Nice, that looks like a bolivianus. I have some of those, and I have to say that they're very great plants. Easy to take care of, and apparently they can take abuse.

Moving the plant won't bother it much, as the others said. It sounds like your fish in the thirty gallon will be fine with the plant, so if you want to move it you shouldn't have any trouble.

On the other hand, you can probably keep it in the tank it's currently in. If you don't want the leaves to get too long, just remove them. That's what I do with mine, and they just keep on growing. If and when yours does hit a dormant period, then you won't need to trim the plant so much.

I personally don't think you will see much die-off....I have moved mine a bunch of times and only lost maybe a leaf or two. within weeks they were always back to normal and sprouting a few new leaves a week like they usually do, flowering and getting along really well.

To induce die-off for a forced dormant period (a good idea if you're noticing the growth on the plant is really starting to lag) you can place the plant in almost complete darkness or really dim light in a container with fine gravel or sand on the bottom for a few weeks or so. The leaves will fall off (I just leave them in the container, it's ugly but I try my hardest to ignore it), then when it's finished and all of the old leaves are gone you will see a pair of new leaves sprout from the top of the bulb and you can move it back into your aquarium. When the plant starts growing again it will be renewed, start growing really quickly again and be very healthy.

When you're moving aponos, try not to disturb the roots very much. I just grasp the plant by the base of the leaves, pull it out and avoid touching the bulb and roots as much as I can. I just dig a small pit in the gravel for the bulb, stick it in and fill it back in. Aponogetons are some of my favourite plants. One day I will get around to trying A. madagascariensis finally.

Sometimes you just get a dead bulb, I haven't had it happen too often but a few times they have been.

Thanks for all the replies and info. Yesterday I decided to go ahead and move it; it looks so much nicer in the big tank. My RTBS is busy cleaning it and for some reason the cories think it's a new toy Keeping my fingers crossed that it stays healthy.

Just wanted to share a pic of how the apon looks today. It's doing so well and this tank has no special lighting or substrate, no co2, and I just dose Excel twice a week. There are 10 cories in the tank who think it's a playground, trying to rest on the leaves then end up sliding down

Cool. I just moved my ulvaceus out of the 10 because it came back from dormancy and outgrew it in 2 weeks. They grow really quickly! :%) If you can get some root tabs your aponos will love you. They do fine without, even in just sand but mine do better with tabs added right near the bulbs.
