I have recently begun dabbling in live plants. I have a bottle of Leaf Zone but am afraid to use it for fear it may harm my Clown Loaches and Panda Corys.

Are plant foods safe?

I think you will find that all aquarium plant foods are safe providing you use them correctly meaning at the prescribed dosage.

It is many medications that are not suitable for all fish and here you must read the label to check first, A very good rule here is if in dought dont use or buy ask here first.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

As Keith said, it depends on the dosage and frequency.

A simple example is Nitrates, one of the macros. Imagine you dose your tank daily with KNO3 and increase with each dose the water's nitrate concentration by 20ppm, within a week you would end up with rather high levels (not really 7x20 as plants would consume some of it) that may become dangerous for the fish.

Makes sense, doesn't it?
