I assume you are referring to the little indicators that you stick on the glass inside the tank. They are not accurate enough to give a proper reading. Really they'll only give a high, low, med reading.

I use one but it's more for a quick reference that things are pretty much in line. For accurate readings I test the pH and KH.

I've never heard of them not working with a certain GH level. I certainly wouldn't mess with water params for that thing.

As Tom said you have plenty of Ca in your GH. So all you really may need to add to be safe is the Epsom salts, Mg,once a week as per his suggestion. Forget the rest it's fine.
....The GH looks good otherwise, plenty of Ca++, so you only need to add the cheap Epsom salt, not Ca++.

Your KH is good don't touch.

Ok, thanks Bensaf. I got confused.

I understood that the above meant no action other than Epsom salt required - so I'm doing that. But I was confused by a few lines further down
So you do not need to buy a name brand. Add about a 3:1 ratio by mass of CaS04 to MgS04 for a nice mix, add about 1 degree of GH to this each week after a water change
I became unsure what the instructions were. (Was I to add the CaS04 or not.) Thanks for clearing that up. I'll do nothing. I have a KH test kit. Is a GH test kit something I should get as well, sounds like maybe there is no need?

Cheers

KH and pH are the important ones. The rest are luxury , you'll hardly ever use them. Once you know the GH of tap and you aren't playing with it, there's really no need to test GH again.

The other tests are pretty much so inaccurate as to be useless and a waste of money.
