![]() | Baby Java Ferns |
Brian1216![]() Hobbyist Posts: 97 Votes: 0 Registered: 28-Apr-2005 ![]() ![]() | I've attached a few small Java Ferns to my driftwood. They are around 1-3 inches tall. Will these grow quickly? Some are getting daughter plants emerging from them. Do they just keep growing and breeding? |

"Will these grow quickly?" - Java Ferns grow fairly slowly. "Do they just keep growing and breeding?" - That's exactly what they do, they will develop baby plantlets on the leaves, and the rhizome (thick part of the root) will also expand with new leaves growing from that... You can cut those off to make more plants or keep the width under control if you need. Java ferns can grow very large over time. I had one almost completely fill a 10 gallon. They can get larger. I really like Java Fern, for such an easy plant, they are versatile. Tie to wood or rocks preferred. I'm using baby java ferns in my 10 gal now as a carpet plant and it's a great look. Yes they can be a very slow grower. I am not sure if they can be pushed along with better lighting, ferts, & Co2 Keith ![]() ![]() Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. I VOTE DO YOU if not WHY NOT? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I am wondering if I should make the band tighter to encourage them to attach themselves to the bog wood but I didn't want to damage them. How tight should they be bound to it please? Also will they attach to mopani wood? |

The rhizome should not be buried under the gravel or it might rot. How tight should they be bound to it please? Only tight enough that the plant doesn't fall off the wood. Also will they attach to mopani wood? They should, yes. Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |
