Hi folks !

Trying to get back in the swing of things after 7 months or so. Some tank maintenance is needed.

What's the best way to clear the cave of heavy dark beard/brush algae ?

Much thanks
Da

Hi DaMossMan,

Long time no see

Anyway - is the cave fixed in the tank or removable?

If you can take it out then I would say you could go and put it into a bleach solution and afterwards rinse it like mad and place it for a while in a tub with water and some water treatment stuff (you know, for chlorine). Then rinse it, scrub it, rinse again and put it back into the tank.

If you cannot remove it then maybe a Flourish Excel treatment to the tank will do the trick. Use the recommended dosage each day for 7 to 10 days and it may be defeated.

Of course, if the cause for it is not corrected then it will come back

Hope this helps,

Ingo

The only way to remove it completly will be to take it out and scrub the daylights out of it and then let dry completly out for a short time in the sun.

Now for the important part how did it get there in the first place. Find the cause and fix it before the cave goes back into the tank or otherwise the cycle of the algae growth will start over again.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Hi Little_Fish and Keith

Thanks for your responses & it's good to see you too !

The cave is removable so I'll give it a scrub. All I need is a scrub brush that won't damage the wood. I have Excel I can add to tank after to hopefully prevent it coming back. I'm positive it was introduced on a Val plant, plus there is little water current in that area of the tank.

I'll let ya know how it goes. I'm visiting my parents right now but hopped on the computa.
