OK, open discussion. I'm thinking about turning my 30g into a planted tank, now that the cichlids have their new home and I can have plant friendly fish. I've bought from florida driftwood, but am wondering how other competitors out there are for price, quality, reputation, etc. I'm hoping to find some that I've never heard of before...

I cant say that I have ever bought here before but a friend of mine on a dare just ordered a common pleco from this place to test it for me. LOL The plec show'd up in one piece. He bought it for his outside pond. I have been tempted to buy from here before but was always afraid about next day air deliveries. They also sell plants. They accept pay pal. He said the transactions were fast and CS was good. You may try Aquabid. I have never bought from there either but people from here say it is the best.

Hi,
You can obtain plants online from Big Al's.com,
Drsfostersmith.com, Arizona Gardens, and others.
I prefer Arizona Gardens. If you take the time to
read their information on their website for new folks,
and then call them when recommended.
They will be a wealth of information and really help
you select your plants for your tank.
Before you call, know your pH, KH, GH, substrate, Watts
Per Gallon, type of lighting ( degrees Kelvin), CO2 or
not, and what kind of "look" you think you might want
for the tank.

DrsFosterSmith is too expensive for my tastes - they have a 35 dollar minimum order, then charge almost as much for shipping. It's acceptable to pay that for fish sometimes, but for plants it's way too much.

AZGardens seems like a great site, but if you have a hectic work schedule and you can't predict when you're going to be home to get your plants and plant them, it's tough to order from them. Personally, I use aquariumplants.com. I've used overnight and two day shipping from them, so when I order plants I can plan to be around accordingly.

I've also heard very good things about aquaticplantdepot.com and aquabotanic.com (but they require signature on delivery, which is impossible for me) Take your pick

I got my azgardens plants while not home and left them in the box for another 3 days before planting them. They still look fine. You can always waive the signature and you won't have to be home for the delivery. The delivery guys here will set a box inside the door if you leave a note and my 80lb rottweiler is locked up. Azgardens won't replace a plant if you don't require a signature but they rarely lose plants so long as the box doesn't sit outside for hours in the heat or snow. If you call azgardens they can give you a more definite day of delivery. Dr foster and smith is definitely expensive. Not only for their minimum but just the pricing of their equipment, plants, and fish in general. I get most of my nonliving tank things from bigals site. It's 1/3 the cost of anything locally.

I've ordered twice from aquaticplantdepot.com and I've got to say, I can't find anywhere else that will beat their prices. They don't have a minimum order, plus there's a first time buyer discount.

I've had good and bad luck with them... the first order went smoothly and all the plants were lovely. The second order was sent during winter months, so some of the plants died of cold shock, but the ones that survived are doing magnificently.

Great!! Just what I was looking for. Selection is always good when looking for plants, I even shop around for plants in my *outside* gardens, even for the common plants. I do not think signatures would be a problem... if worse comes to worse, I can have it shipped to my work (I'm there enough to almost call it home anyways).

I will only buy plants from [link=Aquatic Plant Depot]http://www.aquaticplantdepot.com/" style="COLOR: #FFCC99[/link]. Like Kitten said, no minimum order requirement, 5% discount for first-time buyers, and Priority Mail shipping is $10.00

I must be close to my 10th order with them and I've personally not had any problems.
