Anything that compacts too much will crush the roots and prevent nutrients from reaching them. The addition of substrate digging snails, such as Malaysian trumpet snails will keep the sand bed aerated. As for salt-tolerating plants, try looking at [link=Tropica]http://www.tropica.com" style="COLOR: #00A0AE[/link] and choosing "accepts brackish water" from the drop down menu under "species list" on the right hand side of the page. ![]() ~Meow. I'm assuming "normal" brackish is okay, but I've never run a brackish tank, so I can't help out. I'm sure some brackish people will wander by soon. ![]() Good luck! ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

Mangrove seedlings are common for brackish tanks, but work best in a tank with no lid, with the light suspended above. I imagine light salt to mean plants that will do okay in a tank with normal aquarium salt used as a disease and parasite deterrent, not brackish concentrations of marine salt. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |
