Okay, so I have to admit, the first thing I wanted to do after I got out of my minor surgery yesterday was to go to the lfs. Unfortunately, I do not think I was in the right mind for shopping, because I was looking through the plants and saw a GORGEOUS sword (Brazil Sword). I quickly glanced to see it's lighting needs, and saw moderate, so I brought it home. Not once did I look up from the light requirements to see that it said it was a Terrarium, and not a True Aquatic. Has anyone else kept this plant before? Will it do well for me, or is this going to be one of those plants I struggle with and continually fail with? Thanks!

Hi,
Like most tropical plants they are used to the high heat
and humidity. Many go through periods where they are
at least partially immersed during the rainy season, and
then left above the water level exposed to the heat,
humidity (100%), and "rain" (condensation from the tree
canopy above) nearly every day.

If you plant such a plant in an aquarium, constantly
immersed, it will grow soft, (water logged) begin to rot,
and eventually die off.

These plants are best kept inside a enclosed terrarium,
with good light, a small pond, and should be misted daily.
If you live in an area of high humidity, you may be able
to get by planting it in a pot and keeping the leaves
misted at least twice a day.

Thanks Frank! Not exactly the answer I was hoping for, but I knew it was probably the one I was going to get. I just wanted to know before I went and planted it in my aquarium just to watch it waste away to nothing. I was just excited because it was a beautiful sword... and I was still not in my right mind from my fear of the incision. Okay, well now time to try to figure out what to do with it. I have always wanted a terrarium, but have no space for it right now. Maybe I can set up a small one just to house it for now. Thanks again Frank!

Probably a good thing for you it was closed so you did not end up with something you did not really want, like I did! LOL! Now I have a gorgeous plant, and no matter what I do, I am going to have to see it waste away!
