Plants that propagate themselves have "daughter plants" - for example, the little plants that grow from the leaves of a java fern can be called daughter plants. Also, the plants that come up from runners of an original crypt or val can be called daughter plants of the original one.

There are several names like that, in the garden world one plant a fern is called hen and chickens. It is because of the plantlets that grow on the leaves of the "mother" plant. They can be left alone and they will grow bigger and fall off and then become a "mother" plant or transplanted

In a fish tank these plantletts can be taken off when it becomes a good size or when it breaks off and you can attach it to a piece of DW or a rock.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info
