I have a 10 gallon unfourtunatly with sand and have 2.6 wpg compact fluorescent lighting. My saggatarius got destroyed by a snail. I need fast growing plants to take out some excess nutrients (phosphate) any suggestions?

Well, first to answer your question - hornwort and anacharis would be my two choices. In that amount of light with even a little CO2 addition hornwort will grow by inches per day.

But second, why do you think you have high phosphates?

I have algae in both my tanks and both apear to be the red beard algae which signals high phosphate I also have what has been identified as FW hydra see this post. http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Planted%20Aquaria/66370.html
I was hoping a fast growing plant would starve it out.

Ceratophyllum, Sagittaria, Echinodorus bleheri, Ceratopteris and Vallisneria are all great anti-algae plants that grow fast and suck up nutrients. See this link: http://www.tropica.dk/article.asp?type=aquaristic&id=152.

Blue gouramis would love a crack at your hydra.

I've barely got 2wpg and no co2 and my vals grow at least 3" per week so they would be good.

Green Hygro used to grow about 4 inches a week in my meidum light tank. I used CO2 though. It still grows fast without CO2, and is a great nutrient absorber.
