Hornwort is used very often for a floating plant. I've also had a lot of luck with anacharis.

You should be able to find hornwort-its dk green, and has fine needle like leaves, and is fast growing, and likes to float. Also dwarf lily bulbs will send up pads that the gourami will like also- the bulbs are readily available at walmart/ petsmart, ect...

I find that Salvinia Natans is a very good floating plant & it really grows fast.

Just a thought, but since gourami are Labyrinth Fish you may want to be careful how many floating plants you have.
Also I have never had that much success with hornwort. Sometimes it just breaks up and dies on me. Other times it consumes all my nitrates but does not grow much.

Water sprite works great for me. I have it in my 5 gallon betta tank and it looks awesome. Just make sure you actually have it floating, so it gets enough light.(unless you already have a well lit tank.)

I hate hornwort! It always breaks apart or gets covered in algae, IME.

Anacharis has grown fine in all of my tanks, but it's not the prettiest floating plant you could get.

Hi,
Floating plants are called that because they float on
the surface of the water. Their roots drop down into
the water from the floating leaves. Because they are
not rooted in the gravel, the roots draw their nutrients
from the water that they hang down into. These are
especially good to control the nitrates in the tank, and
will also provide shade for the lower light demand plants
such as crypts and Java Fern etc. They also provide
excellent shelter for baby fish that are hiding from
the adults.

Anacharis, wisteria, hornwart, ricia, are but a few
of many plants that are considered floating plants.

Frank
