Hi,
Bit of information first...
Tank: 90-95G tall (48 x 15 x 30)
Planned Substrate: Flourite

In the process of tearing down my aquarium and setting it back up. I really want to plant my tank this time around, but I am a bit concerned that the force of water coming out of the 404 will make the plants unhappy.

Questions regarding this...
1) Am I right to be concerned about blasting plants with the output of the filter?
2) Is there a way to 'deflect' or minimize the force generated by the filter?

Other questions -- I'm thinking about getting the a combo of the 3x96 lighting from ahsupply.com (http://www.ahsupply.com/96watt.htm) and one of the "easy life habitat" packages from azgardens. (http://www.azgardens.com/habitats_easy.php)

My questions are --
1) Will that light package be sufficient for a tank of that depth, I know it will not be ideal, but wondering if it will be sufficient for moderate plants growth/health?
2) Has anyone had any experience with that package from azgardens? Is it as 'easy life' as advertised?

Sorry bout the length, was initially going to be a question about the filter (been looking around for an answer off and on since yesterday and gave up) but I figured since I was here...

Thanks!

I have used the fluval 404 in my planted tank with no problems for the plants. I use a spraybar for the output and it's fine.

I'm not sure if the lighting will be enough in a tank that deep......

Hi,

I use a Dolphin F 1200 (quite strong) and i've had no problem, my tank also has a Atlantis PowerAir 1100 as a Co2 reactor so it's quite a current in there it's a 20G tank, and plants are happy, the only problem are the Tiger Lotus (they get tanggled), but other than that they are just fine.

Just direct the flow to the back or side edge of the tank and you'll do fine

If you have issues with the current, aim the outlet of the Fluval towards the glass, this will greatly reduce the current.

Hi,
It seems the filter questions were properly addressed,
but the plant questions unanswered.
I've been dealing with Arizona Gardens for years.
I have spoken with them several times and ordered
that way or on line. In each and every case I have
been 100% satisfied. If I were you, I would purchase
the lights and flourite, setup the tank, and then
call them and speak with someone such as Kevin, or
anyone for that matter. Describe your tank, it's
water chemistries (pH, KH, GH) and watts/gallon.
Describe the fish you plant on keeping, and then
describe your experiance, or lack of, with planted
aquariums. I firmly believe you will be amazed at
their helpful advice, and suggestions for that tank!

Sometimes I feel like that guy on the Wendy's commercial...
"Do I work for them?....Not exactly"

I simply can't help but boost a company that has such
excellent customer service, and is so full of information.

Frank

I have had nothing but bad service from AZgardens, which I won't get into here. I would suggest http://www.aquariumgarden.com/index.php, as their plants arrived healthier, fuller, a more generous amount, and it didn't require OVERNIGHT shipping like AZgardens does. ( you can get their 3 day shipping, but you won't get it in three days because they ship on thursday).

As for the spraybar, if you're going to run co2 you can submerge the spraybar. If it's too strong you can drill the holes out bigger, etc. I have submerged spraybars on both 300+ gph canister filters in one of my tanks and they don't even knock over the italian vals

i have a rio 200 running in my 15G planted tank
used to have the outlet facing length wise, so there are
more current, but my plants don't seem to like it so i
aimed the outlet facing width wise, now there is no problem
with my plants at all filter is still doing its job
