I found an empty CO2 canister in the basement of my new apartment. It looks to only be a few years old, because it doesn't have any signs of rust or damage and is only a little dusty. It is 7-8 inches in diameter, and about 20 inches tall, to the base of the nozzle.

How many pounds of CO2 will this hold?

Does anyone know where I can get a cheap regulator and needle valve online?

Hi Matt
It sounds like a 10pound tank. Get it filled at
a welding supply or at a CO2 tap store (they
sell CO2 systems for bars and soda fountians).
As far as the rest of the components is concerned
I don't use the words "cheap or used" when it comes
to compressed gas. Get a new regulator from one
of the online stores (Arizona Gardens, Big Al's,
Drsfostersmith, etc.) The other components, you
could practically build yourself, or use the
internet for them.

Thanks Frank,

Maybe I should redefine my qualifications for the regulator and needle valve . I would like a new, functional, and relatively inexpensive regulator/needle valve.

I checked those three sites, and only drfostersmith had a regulator, and it was $90....ouch.

Frank, I think I remember that you have a pressurized system. Where did you get your regulator and needle valve?

Has anyone else purchased regulators online? Something closer to $50 than $100?

Matty,

Keep trying to look around especially on line. The situation has changed somewhat recently with Co2 injection becoming more and more common. Before the only way to get this kind of equipment was bar and welding suppliers. The aquatic companies have copped on to the fact that there is a growing market and as a result there are a lot of regulators specifically designed for aquarium use coming onto the market. Most have preset pressure reducers and built-in needle valves as a result they are very cheap. Most are from Taiwan, but a few of the betters makers like Dennerle are getting in on the act.

I got one here for about 25 bucks, preset pressure so only has one gauge for tank pressure so you know when the tank needs filling, no needle valve required, just needed a check valve and bubble counter (actually didn't need the bubble counter as the reactor is easy to read the bubble count).

I've seen one from Dennerle that was basic as can be, no pressure gauges at all just a valve for setting the bubble flow, think it was something like $15. I don't like the idea of not knowing how much gas is the tank though

Keep looking they're out there. If you still can't find anything let me know , I'll see what i can do.

I've found [link=these]http:// www.beveragefactory.com/draftbeer/regulators/co2-premium.shtml [/link] to be the cheapest I've seen online or at any local brewery shops, but I don't trust online shopping enough if I have never heard of them before....I just don't have enough money to get ripped off. And if you add the shipping costs I'm really not saving anything. The local brew shops sell guages at $50 and I would also have to buy the needle valve for another $20 or so.

Bensaf, was that 25 usd? and no need for a needle valve? *gets down on knees and grovels* Would you consider shipping one out to me if I sent you a check or money order to cover all the expenses?

Oh I checked that dannerle site....but I can't read anything, but the pictures were nice!

The above link should point you towards this site, but for some reason won't

Hi Mat,
I purchased my two stage regulator from Arizona Gardens.
It was part of a Bioplast system that they marketed for
a time.

hey matt, i just bought a set from ebay, i think i paid 90 total, but thats with glass diffuser w/ceramic disc (useless ) i ended up using a wood diffuser, and also included with a 10 foot long co2 resistent air tube. otherwise i think you could get a kit from ebay for about 75 dollars with shipping included and all, comes with solenoid, dual gauges, needle valve, bubble counter, and depends on which item you buy, they might come with small accessories like my diffuser or co2 resistent air tube.

to be honest tho, i think my regulator kit is a bit too sensitive, when i first got it the needle valve kept lowering itself, but now its okay, it still shifts but only between 1-1.5 bubbles per second.

also you should be happy you found the tank, cuz tank was gonna cost you another good 70+ dollars for a 10 pound

Matty,

Drop me a PM if you have no luck see if I can fix you up. Yep it was $25 usd.

I sent a couple of reactors to Falstaf in Mexico a while back, he got them no problem.
