One additional aspect: If it grows then it really grows and invades the rest of the tank rather quickly. A second guess, but less likely, would be Hemianthus callitrichoides, mostly called simply HC. This plant grows rather slow, it even harder to anchor than Glosso, and costs $$$ if you want to buy enough for a cover. Otherwise, get only a litte (if you find it available at all) and let it grow out over time. Hope this helps, Ingo ![]() |

Sounds exactly what I am looking for I should be able to control its growth as it in an enclosed area DW and small smooth stones. Also, make sur elight is intense enough to keep them low like that. In insufficient lighting they'll grow tall and gangly looking. |

Apart from the light requirements already mentioned IME the most important thing for success with Glosso is CO2. It needs a lot. I've tried growing it without Co2 but it's never worked. It takes a lot of patience and a good tweezers to plant. It will, as mentioned overgrow itself and rot in patches. It looks it's best for a relatively short period then you have to pull it up and start over. Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |

I am loking for a very low growing plant for the forground of the Berta tank. It's not fussy on light or Co2 put is a lot slower grwing and even more difficult to plant. Once settled it looks better longer. Can be hard to find and a bit pricey though. Marsilea or Dwarf Hairgrass should do ok too. Unfortuanely, for most ground cover plants, to get the kind of growth you need to do the job Co2 is pretty vital. One option that works well in non co2 set ups , as long as light is good is Riccia. All it needs is light. You need to keep it down though. Either using a flat wire mesh or using hairnets over flat rocks or pieces of wood will do it also. The advantage of this is you can create a rolling hilly foreground easily. ![]() Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |
