ive tried doing blackouts, didnt work that well.. i dont really want to cutoff the CO2 either cause it would be a waste.

i have a bunch of plants right now but i havent looked em up yet so i dunno their names. is there a way to stop algae from growing soo much without cutting off things that the plants need? do i need more plants?

Check for excessive Phosphates and make sure you heavily plant your tank and your plants are getting all the nutrients they need. I've watched the algae disappear from my tanks by doing this. Also keep the C02 going. The plants need all the help they can to out-do the algae.
Cheers, James.

there are many products that can do it for you under a week.. depending on where you live your lfs should have algea removal products.. like Algae clear, Algae cure, Wardley Allclear.. n more.. its the easy way out i guess?

Rob3y,
The chemicals will only rid the algae temporarily and damage the plants permanently. The algae will return if the root cause is not found and addressed.

Azn,
Need to know size of tank, how much light, what and how much ferts you are using, what plants and how many, water parameters and the type of algae you are having.

Without this information it's justing shooting in the dark and any advice given could cause more harm then good.

i have a bunch of plants right now but i havent looked em up yet so i dunno their names.

So how do you know what they need and how to take care of them ? You need to find out what plants you have. Take care of the plants and you'll have very few problems with algae.(Not trying to be nasty, just a bit of tough love)

Try to get the above info amd we can take it from there

Hi,
check out these articles on Algae, their types, and their
control. Decide what type you are plagued with and then
take appropriate steps to rid your tanks of it.

ok finally got around to finding out what my plants are.

i think i have a few brazillian and amazon swords along with a bunch of hornwort at the back of the tank.

for the amazon swords, i can see new leaves sprouting out from the bottom, the hornwort is nearly double its original height, but the brazillian swords havent changed at all.

i read the first link frank gave me and determined i have green water algae. i guess i need to get some tests to check what my nitrates levels are at.

Hi,
Sounds like you are on the right path. I'd continue with
the recommended water changes (20% weekly) and add more
hornwart it is a "nitrate sponge" a greedy little plant,
it will soak up the excess nitrates like a kid with ice
cream on a hot day.

This is because the "Brazilian" Sword is not a true aquatic plant. It will last for a few weeks in the tank and then die off, probably fouling up your water in the process. Better to take it out.
