If so, I would say try it planted and as a floater, it sucks up a good amount of nitrate from the water column either way. Cichlids though may decide it is tasty and may nip at it, if this doesn't bother you then by all means go for it. Another good plant is java fern, most cichlids don't find it tasty at all, same goes for anubias. It is a slow grower though and will get algae if in direct light. Personally I don't mind when my krib decides to snack, it's usually her or the tiger barbs tearing at the hygro, occasionally at a crypt, sometimes the water sprite is attacked.
