A few days ago, I bought some bulbs from WalMart to go in my new tank. Since I will be moving my mollys in there soon, I wanted to have some good plants growing. It is been five days and one of the plants has about a centimeter thick of fuzzy white stuff around the bulb. The other plants seem to be sprouting (I've never actually grown them before though- I have always just bought them from the store) Why is this happening?

PS Do my plants need plant food?

I would say it has a fungus which possibly means the bulb is dead.
Fertilisation I have always used them there are plenty on the market today not knowing what you can buy I would not suggest any at all. Some one in your country/area will have a better idea what is best for you and how much & how often to use.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

Oh the ones I got are cheap, common bulbs (not sure what kind) but they said that they were great in freashwater tanks, not harmful to fish and guarenteed to grow within 15 days. I'll remove the dead bulb....

You probably have apongeton bulbs or hopefully you have apongeton bulbs. The dwarf lilly bulbs are a bit harder to grow preferring alot more light to do well and the big lilly bulbs outgrew my 55g. All those bulb packs from walmart are hit or miss. Sometimes they grow and sometimes the entire pack is a dud. Just throw out any that get fuzzy or stay floating for a couple weeks. Those won't grow.
