Inko's 20 Gallon Planted Tank | |
inkodinkomalinko Fish Guru Posts: 2441 Kudos: 833 Registered: 18-Jan-2003 | (This post is a bit long, if you look at the pictures you'd get the gist of it though) Time to join the fun and start one of these good ol' logs myself. This tank was actually set up 5 weeks ago, but I had to leave it unattended for more than three weeks due to winter break from school. All the fish survived, but alot of the original plants died or ended up in horrible condition. I've been following a few of the other logs, though I haven't been posting, to get some ideas. I haven't had much experience with plants except for a 5.5 planted a while back and a 20 cube semi planted last years. Help, suggestions, and tips are all very welcome (and appreciated)! Heres a pic of the tank after I came back today: The front used to have 7 chain swordplants but they all died off. The Bacopa also became extremely leggy, as well as the Ludwigia repens. The ovalis? swordplant had alot of leaves die off as well. Diatoms also covered the glass and most plants . Heres a pic after the cleanup: Both the Anubias barteri are new, as well as the dwarf hair grass and lilaeopsis sp?. Theres also vals hidden behind the crypts on the left hand side that are tiny, some new ludwigia as well as a bunch of A. reneickii? in the right corner (though I think I might throw it out since the leaves are wayyyyy too big). Everything in the tank's a bit jumbled around. I think I'm going to rearranged it after stuff grows back in a bit. And now finally, the stats: 20 Gallon Eclipse tank. Lights: Two 15 watt aquaglo bulbs. I ripped apart the eclipse hood so it's basically just a cover that allowed me to put a 2x32 watt Power Compact fixture in there. The bulbs need to be changed though as they are 50/50 and a bit old. Filter is a fluval 305 with fresh media as well as an AC 30 Substrate: Two bags of eco-complete. Finally! The fish! The original four gymogeophagus balzanii. They survived the break and actually bred right before I left, though the eggs didn't survive. They're probably going to be moved to the 150 gallon back at home once I have time to set it up. Others are 6 congo tetras (that are for the 150) 2 neon dwarfs and 5 otos. Really heavily stocked, I know, but most fish will be gone in a few weeks. (If you look closely, theres eggs ontop of the rock, this was taken before I left for break). Take Care, Allen |

YOu may want to consider some DIY CO2, or some excel, or what not. The plants will grow amazinginly great if you do! One more thing: I think that the hairgrass will spread out more and look better if you planted them in smaller clumps, but spread out. That is, if you wanted it to carpet! God job, and keep it up! ><> ~=!Vote Today!=~ <>< -----> View My Dragons <----- |
