Java Moss Question | |
zookeper Hobbyist Posts: 106 Kudos: 62 Votes: 6 Registered: 19-Apr-2007 | I recieved my Java Moss a couple days ago and it is very nice and there is alot of it. The Moss came in wads so I have it in a bowl or tank water till I have time to deal with it. Now, I have my driftwood that I want to attach it to and some cotton thread to hold it in place till it takes hold. So, my question is.. Do I try to seperate the Moss as much as possible and spread it over the entire piece of driftwood or can I just tie clumps of the moss on the wood or what? It doesnt seperate easily and I dont want to kill it. Any advice on the proper way to tie it down is appreciated. Thanks |

Personally I would thin it out to allow it to expand and grow without smothering its self. It will be a very slow grower and cotton would not be the best to use as it will rot away before it is attached properly. All my Anubias and Java Ferns are attached by using 15lb nylon fishing line. When it is finally attached you can cut it away or leave it if it is all covered by the new growths of the Java Ferns. I attached more Java to some petrified wood and put that in my Betta tank. The Betta is really lovin it! How long do you think it will take the moss to attach to the wood and petrifed wood rock? I hear this moss grows really fast so just wonderin. |

Is this new growth or is it dying? The moss is bright green and looks normal except for the tips. I really do like this moss and the fish like it as well. I hope it does well. |

Listen! Do you smell that? |
