I recieved my Java Moss a couple days ago and it is very nice and there is alot of it.
The Moss came in wads so I have it in a bowl or tank water till I have time to deal with it.
Now, I have my driftwood that I want to attach it to and some cotton thread to hold it in place till it takes hold.
So, my question is.. Do I try to seperate the Moss as much as possible and spread it over the entire piece of driftwood or can I just tie clumps of the moss on the wood or what? It doesnt seperate easily and I dont want to kill it.
Any advice on the proper way to tie it down is appreciated. Thanks

When you say attatch it to the DW in clumps. This will depend on the size of the clumps you wich to attach. Personally I would thin it out to allow it to expand and grow without smothering its self. It will be a very slow grower and cotton would not be the best to use as it will rot away before it is attached properly. All my Anubias and Java Ferns are attached by using 15lb nylon fishing line. When it is finally attached you can cut it away or leave it if it is all covered by the new growths of the Java Ferns.

Thanks.

I attached the Java moss to the driftwood in the big tank and used fishing line. It looks awesome!

I attached more Java to some petrified wood and put that in my Betta tank. The Betta is really lovin it!

How long do you think it will take the moss to attach to the wood and petrifed wood rock? I hear this moss grows really fast so just wonderin.

I have never tried attaching to petrified wood but if it is a fast grower it should start attaching within several weeks.

The moss will attach to the Driftwood in a couple of weeks, but i wouldn't worry about it, as the fishing line will snap off by time & be sure that the Moss will be well attached by that time.

I have had the Java Moss in my tanks now for about 2 weeks. I have noticed the tips of the moss strands look a lil fuzzy. Is this new growth or is it dying?
The moss is bright green and looks normal except for the tips. I really do like this moss and the fish like it as well. I hope it does well.

One thing to watch out for with the moss (and this is recent experience talking here! ) is to make sure it's not too close to your lights, with it up on the driftwood, or it'll turn brown and really start to grow a lot of algae.

Listen! Do you smell that?
