I need more plants. 40 gallon long tank, 96W, no CO2. I welcome all ideas and criticism. The goldies are only nibbling the moss on the rock ( and I know they'll need a bigger tank eventually) What low light plants can I get for the background. The fish eat sag so that's out. Thanks for any help. Caviar attached this image: ![]() |

They should be somewhat immune to the goldfish but you may need to protect the roots with slate until they are firmly rooted. __________ "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." researched from Steven Wright |

I had the back filled with Anacharis but it clogged up the filters too much. My photo expertise is nil. The tank is clear as a bell and there are a lot of little plants along the front that you can't see. Maybe it will look better as the plants grow and fill in. Thank you for your prompt response. |

They are pretty easy to grow and can be attached to a rock or wood so they are easy to move later if you want. They are also really attractive. ![]() Here's a list from one site ([link=http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/4468/gf_plants.html]http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/4468/gf_plants.html" style="COLOR: #36af30[/link]) Rooted plants Personally I think I would try aponogetons. They are really hardy and grow quickly in almost any tank (probably faster than the golds could eat them) |

First off, awesome tank ! I'm upgrading my tank to a 40 breeder myself and looking at the coralife 96 watt fixture and wondering if that's what you're using ? Are you getting even light distribution from front to back ? 18 inch width seems alot of tank for one bulb to cover, but I don't want to really use 2 double tube shop lights although it'd give me 2wpg.. I had glass panels cut to fit the tank and sit the 2 hoods on that. So far so good. The plants are all light covered and growing well. Thanks for the compliment! It still needs some "dressing up". |

I'd suggest looking at some of the larger ones (rather than letting it grow larger in the tank) at your lfs. Tie them close together on a small piece of wood to root to. It doesnt' need to be big @all just enough to hold the plants and you should have a nice full plant background. ^_^
The life, the love, You die to heal. Caviar![]() ![]() Hobbyist Posts: 134 Kudos: 187 Votes: 73 Registered: 09-Jan-2004 ![]() ![]() | Hi Babelfish, I have a lot of small Java fern in the tank. I'll look into the taller varieties. My LFS doesn't sell plants and everything else is so exorbitant you can't afford to buy from them. I really don't like the Anacharis in the tank. It looks so messy to me. The only plant the fish touch is the moss, surprisingly. Do you have the name of some taller Java fern? Thanks. |

If you'll be able to get a specific ID out of your LFS or thru an online order with a plant site is hard to tell. ^_^
The life, the love, You die to heal.
