Hello all, i just have a few questions.
-Yesterday i went to my favorite fish store and bought these plants- Sagitaria subulata, Cryptocoryne wendtti var. "green" and Potamogeton gayi. The P. gayi took me by suprise, so i had to get some. Will these plants do good in my 29 gallon under these conditions?- 1&1/4 watts of flourescent, Ph-7.1, gh-8, temp-78,100% fluorite gravel bed-as of next saturday. Some other plants that are doing good are Echinodorus "ozelot", java ferns, Hygrophylla polysperma, Bacopa monnieri, Anubias spp., various aponogetons.
-Also bought 4 bags(15.4 lbs.) of Fluorite. Will this be too much, too little or just right for a 29? I read that this gravel really wears down on Corydoras' barbels. I have Kuhli loaches. Should i be worried? In another place i saw that this is primarily caused by poor water quality/bacterial infections. Which do i believe?

first i am not an expert but my advice to u

is 2 figuer a balance between light ,co2 ,firtlizers
u already have a beautifull substrat which contain so usefull things for plantes ..so u should increase lighing to 2-2.5w/g..if u have budget 2 get co2 go get it or use diy yeast method (its awsome)...so ur plant will use more elments from water and substrat and remmember u is the only person who can know how 2 balance ur tank

and about substrate depth i think 5-7cm is good but if u want more 10++ cm is awsome

about bacteria bloom i think sands only cause this i big depth
crodydors things may be i dont know
please remmeber i am not an expert ..read another opinions and if i was wrong please tell cuz i am establishing 29g toooo
hope this info helps..read as u can
keep in touch

Both the s. sublata and the c. wendtii will be OK under your current conditions. Both species are easy plants that tolerate a wide range of water, temperature and light conditions. In fact, you have done a nice job of choosing similarly tolerant plants in your aquarium. I am sorry but I am not familiar with p. gayi.

A 15.4 pound (7 kg) bage of fluorite will give you an inch of substrate over 400 square inches of tank. With 4 bags of fluorite and 420 square inches of tank bottom, you should have an average depth of 3.67".

Sharp subsrate is not recommended for corydoras as it may injure their barbels. Once cut, the sensitive appendages will infect easily in an aquarium. If you consider the fluorite to be "sharp", you can:

o top the fluorite with larger, smooth gravel pieces,
o set-up a sand or gravel area in the tank by setting a plastic edge to prevent the mixing of fluorite with the sand or gravel.

Well, the fluorite was put in this morning. When it was first put in at 11 am, it was very murky. At 4 pm the murkiness had gone down a good bit, i could actually see my fish swimming and i could almost see my filter tube. I havent seen it since then since i am at my grandparents house. I will see it in about an hour and fifteen minutes. Hopefully, it will be clear enouph in the tank so i can put my plants back in and arrange them.
The Fluorite appears to be sharp but i find to be quite fine, i hope my kuhli loaches do too.
