Would it be okay to mix flourite with standard aquarium gravel for a planted tank, or would that be defeating the purpose of the flourite.

I know that the plants absorb nutrients from the water column and that the gravel is primarily for anchoring the plant, so does it make a difference as to what substrate is used as long as it is the appropriate size and doesn't compact?

What do you mean.. like mixing it all together and put it in... I dont know... but I bet you could put the flourite first, and then put gravel on top, that way it is nice looking and still has nutrients.. but thats just my opinion..... ()

Hi,
Yes, folks who could not afford 100% Flourite have mixed
it 50/50 with regular aquarium gravel. For most folks
who just want plants that thrive, and not over grown
jungles, this should suffice. If, on the other hand you
want a lush green jungle with just a few flashes of color
(fish) then you would be better advised to wait, save some
more, and then spring for 100% flourite.

Thanks, for both of the comments. It's not the cost of the flourite, it's just that I have some on hand as well as gravel and was just curious as to what the results would be. If it's going to be best to have just the flourite then I'll go with that.
