When I got my red-spot ozelot sword the other day, it had three younger leaves that were bright red. Those are changing and I think they may be turning green. Is this normal? Does it have to do with lighting level? I know many "reds" require high lighting to maintain. All I have is a 20w flora-glo, but it is a shallow tank at 12 inches. The top leaves are a mere 3-4 inches from the light and the red leaves, about 6 inches.

I was excited to see such a deep, blood red in some of the leaves as it added contrast, but I had a feeling it would be short lived.

Hi,
When you get plants, or replant them, they all will suffer
a set back while they use stored energy, and adapt to their
new environment. If your tank duplicates where they were
(nutrients, and light) then chances are they will regain
their red coloration. Otherwise, I'd expect some nice
healthy greens.

Today I'm seeing that they are in fact, turning green. There is a newer leaf I hadn't seen before, tucked in deeply, and it is bright, blood red. Maybe it will be a trait of new leaves and once they reach a certain size, they will change to green.
