I have a four foot tank (180 litres) with the following fish:
1 Blue Ram
1 ChequerBoard Chiclid
1 BlackGhost Knife (small - he's only about 8cm)
1 Pleco
1 Bristlenose
6 Cory's
3 Rummy Nose Tetras
3 Cardinal Tetras
3 Siamese Algae Eaters
2 Kouhli loaches
2 Clown Loaches
1 Borneo Sucker

They all get on extremely well with each other and the tank is very stable ( I use an exsternal Eheim Cannister for filtration ). The tank is becoming well planted and all I have for lighting is a broad spectrum Gro-Lux light.

I mainly have plants that are grafted onto driftwood (which look like afican swords - but probably aren't) and those that come wrapped in potting fibre and are encased in little placstic pots. I also have a variety of Val all of which grow well but then after a while I start to get holes in the leaves (not the Val though that needs a haircut every 2 weeks!).

Are these holes an indication of mal-nutrition?

If so maybe I could start adding some plant food that contains a well balance recipe of nutirents and trace elements.

So I'm looking for a recommendation for a well balanced plant food either commercial or do it yourself recipe that will assist my plants in growing without holes!! PS I don't have any algae problems.

Thanks

Hi,
Here is a snapshot chart of the various plant symptoms
and the element that causes the problem.

http://www.otoaquatic.com/nutrient_deficiency.asp

In skimming the symptoms, I did not see anything specific
that said "holes" in the leaves, unless your problem
is severe enough that the "spots" mentioned eventually
become holes.

Some of your fish might be nibbling on them. Watch them
for a while and see if the fish might be the culperts.
