15 watts is really low. that only gives you 3/4 a watt per gallon. With that lighting, you can keep the anubias and java fern. If you double the wattage, you could keep the rotala, wisteria and bacopa. I would suggest cryptocorynes and aponogetons also. Saggitaria would be a nice foreground plant also.

Just checking my reference and it suggests 2-3 Watts US Gall for a planted tank and as you can see you are well below that. The plants might I did say might grow but it is not very likely and if they did they certainly would not be very healthy plants.
Many forget it is not only the wattage it is the type of light as well. Both my tanks have two fluro tube lights one plant and the other a daylight also they are not the cheap ones you pick up at a general store. The better the quality the longer they last which is usually about two years.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

So Kieth, I should get 40-60 watt light???

And yes i get good lights from my pet shop. Which are pretty expensive.

Thank you for the advice... And yes i experienced problems growing plants before, and i never knew why.

And your sure that much light wont kill my fish???

Cheers,

no, that much light will not kill your fish. If You do get that much ligh, it will be useless unless you add fertilizers and supplemental co2. They will be the limiting factors. Personally, at the least, i would get a second 15 watt strip. That way if you do not want to deal with ferts and co2, you do not have to. But if you want to, go for the full 3 watts, which is not neccesary to grow nice plants.

Clown I ahve Ferts, but my co2 system is WAY to loud... i can barely hear my own Tv on the bottom floor of my house with it going... My lid only has 1 strip for a light... so should i just get a higher powered light???

either get the higher power light or get a glass hood so you could fit two strip lights on it. You usually need to get the glass hood for the higher powerd lights anyways, because they sit on legs, which dont fit on the plastic hoods.

Twin lighting is always the best way to go then you can alter the mix of plant and daylight tubes. A glass top is a must as this stops any moisture getting to any of the electrical components.
