I am going to pick up a 38 gal from my LFS, and i found a 96 Watt Compact Fluorescent light. This will make the tank have about 2.5 watts per gallon. I haven't decided on any ferts or other supplements, but does anyone have any suggestions on a successful combination of supplements. What plants would be able to thrive in this tank?

Thanks!

Hi,
With 2.5wpg, you should be able to grow any of the low
light plants, and very nearly all but the most fussy
of the medium light plants, and even some of the high
light plants. It's a good choice.

You can go to this site:

http://www.tropica.com/default.asp

and search on the plants by light demand to get an idea
of what is available. Essentially, you could probably
grow anything that is in a LFS, and you would have to
read the write ups on sites such as AZgardens etc to be
sure that you were purchasing low/medium light plants.

As far as ferts go, you'll want some carbon source, preferably CO2 or you may end up with algae issues. Seachem makes a good line of ferts sold in liquid form (Flourish), or you can get your ferts from greg watson. You'll save a ton of money in the long run this way. You'll want KNO3, KH2PO4, KH2SO4, and some type of micros like CSM + B or Seachem's flourish.
