I recently has some fish with velvet in a tank with my plant (not sure what kind). My question is can plants 'carry' velvet? Like if I put that plant into another tank would the fish get velvet? If so, is there anyway to treat the plant?

thanks!

Hi,
This sounds like a frightening disease, and one
that should be attacked aggressivly.
If you wash your plants under running water, you
should eliminate bringing them in from the LFS.
In this case, I would leave the plants in the tank
so it too is treated. Because it is so contagious
I would not risk spreading it to another tank by
moving the plants. Also, be sure to disinfect
anything that you move from one tank to another
such as the fish net.

Here's the scoop on Velvet.

Also, I'm not experienced on Velvet (but ick, don't get me started). When any disease hits the tank, I treat the plants almost in same way as the fish. No fish or plant goes to another tank for a 1 month period after the last sign of disease. For Dropsy, nothing enters or leaves the tank for 2 months. But can add new plants.
Cheers !

wait till after ALL the fish are cured, if you insist on moving your plant, then rinse it under tap water before putting it in another tank. i am sure you can use some kind of disinfect solution to eliminate all of the bacteria on the plant.

If no fish are sick for a month, assume there is nothing on the plant.
