I want plants in my goldie tank and had hornwort growing pretty good in there, as well as java moss. However, despite my best efforts, the poor things occassionally get their tail fins stuck in the intake. When I ignore it, the injured fins just don't heal. When I use salt (1 Tbsp/5 gal) it heals quickly. I have blocked off the intake with a fake plant, but sometimes it moves and they just like sitting right in front of it .

I've not tried hornwort in salty water. Can it handle occassional salting? How about java moss? Are there others?

Hi,
Check out this site. Write down the plant names
and then either order from here, or pick them up
as they become available at your LFS.

Thanks so much Frank. Here's the list they offer for a 20-30 gallon brackish tank:

# 1 Anacharis
# 2 Anubias Nanas
# 2 Aquatic Banana plants
# 10 Dwarf Sagittaria Subulata
# 6 potted Narrow Leaf Chain Swords
# 2 Bacopa
# 1 Cabomba Green
# 2 Water Sprite
# 1 Temple plant
# 4 Crypt Ciliata
# 3 Java Fern
# 1 Java Moss
# 10 Tall Sagittaria Subulata
# 10 Jungle Vals

Amazing that these are plants taht I can get. I didn't think of Java Fern. Then again, I need to be mindful that I have goldies who will likely snack on anything that goes in. That's why I had java moss and hornwort in there. I see they don't offer hornwort in the brackish set up.

I don't know if you've already thought of this, but maybe you could cover the filter intake with some foam from an aquaclear mechanical filter pad. This way you don't need any salt because there wont be any hurt fins and you can have whatever plants you want.

I have been trying to think of an aesthetic way to cover the thing. For now, I have a mangled, bunched fake plant packed in such a way that debris can float in between, but the fish can't get too close. Its been working for months, but I let it get loose when I cleaned the tank and didn't move it completely back. Both fish "got it". No doubt when you see a crease in the tail in a straight line that is diagonal .
