It came with a price... doing some cabinet installing in his store) Has anyone tried this stuff before? And is it best to remove my active carbon filter? Thanks bala shark |

And if I were to remove the whole unit I loose both. Removing just the active carbon would still allow me to filter mechanicaly... sound like an idea? |

You could also tear one of those filters apart and fit a sponge to the plastic fr I think this post is heading to "Technical Tinkering"! __________ "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." researched from Steven Wright |

I'm just wondering if I should wait a little while longer to take out the carbon... I just did my weekly water change about 4 hours ago, hopefully the aquaplus has done it's job along with the active carbon. The sponge idea sounds like it would be a definite benefit for the bacterial colony. But I've heard that a regular household sponge isn't the way to go for aquarium use, is that true? Maybe because of chemicals used in the manufacturing process. Thanks everyone ![]() |

Some with planted tanks will run carbon for a few hours after water changes then jsut increase a bit the ammount of ferts added. Personally I havent been running carbon for awhile so I can't explain the process they may use. Household sponges aren't good in the tank. What you'll want to do is pick up filter sponges from your lfs, although IME the floss picks up more of the fine particles than the sponges do. Of course that also means that the floss sometimes requires more cleaning than sponges. ^_^ [hr width='40%'] And though it’s red blood bleeding from her now. Rinsed, reinstalled, and dosed with Florena ferts. Let's see how things go now! ![]() bala shark |
