Posts: 2332 Kudos: 799 Registered: 18-Jan-2005 ![]() ![]() | I am going to start using Stump Remover in my 40 gallon tank. This is what I have come up with thus far. Acording to Chucks planted Calculator thingy.... 1.5 tsp of Stump Remover in 1 G of water 37.85 pp N 1.5 tsp of Stump Remover in 1 G of water 37.85 pp Pot. If I run the calc. as dry into tank it comes of up with 1.5 tsp ~ 34.1 pp N 1.5 tsp ~ 21.53 pp Pot. Why is it different for mixed with H2O than strait into the tank. I am guessing that it will all be the same if I mix it as what is stated for the dry into the tank. Does that all make sence? 19G Container Pond [IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wingsdlc/Ric |

There is less K than N in KNO3, I think it is a ratio of 6N to 4K. Hope this helps, Ingo I never tried the "wet" calculation as I always add dry ferts. Think of adding 1.5 tsp. to your 40 gallon tank. The change in water parameters that Chuck's calculator gives you for the tank will be the same if you mix the powder in a gallon jug then add it to the tank. The difference will be that the chemical will be in solution before it hits the water. __________ "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." researched from Steven Wright |

How often should I add this in? Thanks LF and Bob! 19G Container Pond [IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wingsdlc/Ric |

Shouldn't you be aiming for a max of 20ppm. In either case I would not add that much at once. I only add 1/2tsp no3 to my 72g three times a week? Also make sure you have pure potassium nitrate. What brand are you using? Last edited by tetratech at 03-Jan-2006 21:15 My Scapes |

Bob Wesolowski![]() ![]() Mega Fish Posts: 1379 Kudos: 1462 Registered: 14-Oct-2004 ![]() ![]() | Wings, I add 1 teaspoon of Greenlight Stump Remover, pure KNO3, in a gallon of water for my 125G tank. Using Chuck's Calculator, I input the 1 teaspoon as a dry compound to determine that it will raise my nitrate level 7.26 ppm with a 4.58 ppm increase in my potassium. I am comfortable with that nitrate increase in my tank so I add 1 teaspoon of powder to a gallon of water. The gallon is what I add to my aquarium. Now, let's target an increase of 5 ppm in your tank. A quarter teaspoon of stump remover would raise your nitrate level 5.68 ppm. If you made a one gallon stock solution by adding 1 teaspoon of stump remover, you would use a quart (1/4th or a quarter teaspoon) as the amount of solution to add to your aquarium to raise your nitrates 5.68 ppm. At the same time, the solution would add 3.59 ppm in potassium. Call me if you have questions! I got it at Lowes for $1.99 on sale. What do you guys all think I should do for dosing? I am pretty new to such things. The only thing I have going in my tank is Excel. Edit: Well lets just say that it has been one of thoughs night..... Thanks for the call Bob. I thiink I am on the right track now. Going to start adding in 1/4th tsp of Stump Remover and start looking for Potassium Sulfate to bring my Potassium levels up to 20 ppm. As is with 1/4 tsp I will have: 6.09 ppm Nitrate 3.84 ppm Potassium Better?? I really think I lost some hair on a night like tonight... Anyone know a cheep pruduct that is pure Potassium Sulfate? Do you know anything about Tom Barr’s Estimative Index fertilizing routine? Because that is what you are working your way up to ![]() How often to dose, and how much, depends partially on your water change procedure. I do a 50% water change weekly and this way I can make sure that even when dosing 3ppm of N 6 times a week (see 125G log for exact numbers) I will not get over 20ppm. What traces and phosphate do you add? Ingo ![]() |

You could trust me, just look at my avatar. O.K. N,P,K. you have the N and your getting some K from the stump remover. For now to keep things simple you should focus on P and traces. AS littlefish pointed out you could order from Greg Watson. For $3 dollars each you could get a pound of P and a pound of K. There is I believe like a $7 shipping charge, so for $13 you'll have a lifetime supply. For traces you could go many different ways. I use Flourish, LF and Bensaf use TMG. Flourish has more FE than TMG. Greg Watson also sells the Flourish products as well. I don't know how much plant mass is in your tank right now and how much light (2.5wpg?), but even Amano increases ferts as mass increases. I dose only no3, po4, traces. I haven't added s04 in a long time, I think I'm getting enough between the no3, flourish (has potassium), and my eco complete. It's not a perfect science :%) My Scapes |

Tom Barr’s Estimative Index fertilizing routine? ~I guess have some reading to do tomorrow....Bob sent me a coppy of it a while back and I haven't started reading it yet. I think I might be making an order sometime soon. I really like this idea of cheap ferts. I also think I am going to start using Flurish again.
