Has anyone had any experience using coconut fiber as an under gravel planting medium??? I,d like to try it because its way cheaper than peatmoss, and apparently doesn't alter pH. Does it cloud or foul the water??

I considered it when looking into peat substrates, but was told that there was a type of salt bath used on it and that ir probably wan't a great idea. I'd be interested in any info you find on it

I don't know the answer to the question.Never heard of anyone using it.

But why bother ? It's not needed nor is peat moss.Surely the tiny amount of peat needed can't be that expensive ? Use an inert substrate and dose the water column. Plants will take everything they need through their leaves.

It's cheaper , much more convenient and less problematic.

I think you will find it has been chemically treated before it enters any country.
