Can any one tell me how i take cuttings of my plants, being male and not really into convential gardening the closest i get to cuttings is when i empty the box on my lawn mover having cut the grass!!

I am not sure what species i have but do know i have a couple of java ferns, the rest are a mystery, is there a general rule??

It depends on the type of plant. There are a number of ways of propagating. Most stem plants normally just let them grow tall and then cut back to desired height with a sharp scissors and plant the tops.

But that method is really on for stem plants and for example would not work with your Java Fern. With the Fern you can either cut part of the rhizome with a sharp scissors and put elsewhere. At some stage you may notice plantlets growing on the fern, if you let these grow to a couple of inches, you can cut them off and replant.

Other plants have other methods, so would need to know your specific plants.

Some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.

Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability.
